November 20 is celebrated as Universal Children’s Day. On this day, the birthday of many famous people is also celebrated in India. It is believed that the child born on 20 November grows up and goes to the civil service.

(1) Late Milkha Singh (Born : 20 November 1929 ; Died : 18 June 2021) – He also known as The Flying Sikh, was an Indian track and field sprinter who was introduced to the sport while serving in the Indian Army. He is the only athlete to win gold at 400 metres at the Asian Games as well as the Commonwealth Games. He also won gold medals in the 1958 and 1962 Asian Games. He represented India in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome and the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. He was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, in recognition of his sporting achievements. The race for which Singh was best remembered is his fourth-place finish in the 400 metres final at the 1960 Olympic Games, which he had entered as one of the favourites. He led the race till the 200m mark before easing off, allowing others to pass him. Various records were broken in the race, which required a photo-finish and saw American Otis Davis being declared the winner by one-hundredth of a second over German Carl Kaufmann. Singh’s fourth-place time of 45.73 seconds was the Indian national record for almost 40 years. From beginnings that saw him orphaned and displaced during the Partition of India, Singh has become a sporting icon in his country. Singh died of COVID-19 complications on 18 June 2021 at the age of 91. Singh and his daughter, Sonia Sanwalka, co-wrote his autobiography, titled The Race of My Life. It was published in 2013. The book inspired “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”, a 2013 biographical film of Singh’s life.
(2) Mrs. Shilpa Shirodkar (DOB – November 20, 1969 in Mumbai) – She is an Indian actress and former photo model who worked primarily in Hindi-language films from 1989 to 2000. Shirodkar made her debut with Ramesh Sippy’s film Bhrashtachar (1989), with Mithun Chakraborty and Rekha, in which she played the role of a blind girl. She starred opposite Anil Kapoor in the hit 1990 film Kishen Kanhaiya. The following year she had successful films like Hum (1991). She appeared in several other hit films such as Yodha (1991), Hum (1991), Trinetra (1991), Khuda Gawah (1992), Apradhi (1992), Dil Hi To Hai (1992), Aankhen (1993), Pehchaan (1993), Gopi Kishan (1994), Chhoti Bahoo (1994), Bewafa Sanam (1995) and Mrityudand (1997) etc. She decided to quit acting after marriage and her last film appearance was in the film Guns of Banaras (2020). She was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for Khuda Gawah. She took a break from show business to raise her family in London and in 2013 made her comeback on television for Zee TV’s new show Ek Mutthi Aasmaan. Her second television serial Silsila Pyar Ka aired on Star Plus on 4 January 2016 and ended six months later in June. From May 2017 to September 2018, she appeared in the Colors TV serial Savitri Devi College & Hospital (2017-18).
(3) Mr. Tusshar Kapoor (DOB – November 20, 1976 in Mumbai) – He is an Indian actor and film producer working in Hindi films. Tusshar Kapoor is the son of Indian actors Jeetendra and Shobha Kapoor. He studied at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor for his BBA degree at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business. Tusshar Kapoor is a follower of Nichiren Buddhism. Prior to making his debut as an actor, Kapoor worked with film director David Dhawan as an assistant. He made his debut in 2001 with the blockbuster film Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai along with Kareena Kapoor. He received the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for his work in the film. He then starred as Rahul in coming of age film Kyaa Dil Ne Kahaa (2002).
