(1) Late Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman (Born: 7 November 1888, Tiruchirappalli, Died: 21 November 1970, Bengaluru) – He was an Indian physicist known for his work in the field of light scattering. Using a spectrograph that he developed, he and his student K. S. Krishnan discovered that when light traverses a transparent material, the deflected light changes its wavelength and frequency. This phenomenon, a hitherto unknown type of scattering of light, which they called “modified scattering” was subsequently termed the Raman effect or Raman scattering. Raman received the 1930 Nobel Prize in Physics for the discovery and was the first Asian to receive a Nobel Prize in any branch of science. The Raman effect was discovered on 28 February 1928. The day is celebrated annually by the Government of India as the National Science Day. In 1954, the Government of India honoured him with the first Bharat Ratna, its highest civilian award. He later smashed the medallion in protest against Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s policies on scientific research.
(2) Mrs. Usha Uthup (Born- November 7, 1947 in Mumbai) – She is an Indian pop, filmi, jazz, and playback singer who sang songs in the late 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. “Darling”, which she recorded with Rekha Bhardwaj for the film 7 Khoon Maaf, won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer in 2012. Her first public singing occurred when she was nine. Her sisters, who were already exploring a career in music, introduced her to Ameen Sayani, then the most popular radio announcer in India. Ameen Sayani gave her an opportunity to sing in the Ovaltine Music Hour of Radio Ceylon. She sang a number called “Mockingbird Hill”. After that, several appearances followed through her teenage years. Usha Uthup started her music career in Chennai in 1969, singing in a small nightclub called Nine Gems in the basement of the erstwhile Safire theatre complex on Mount Road. she started her Bollywood career with Ivory-Merchant’s Bombay Talkies (1970) in which she sang an English number under Shanker-Jaikishan and then Hare Rama Hare Krishna. Uthup is also an actress. In 2006, she acted in the Malayalam movie Pothan Vava. Usha Uthup is still active in the field of singing.
(3) Mr. Kamal Hassan (Born: 07th November 1954 in Paramakudi, District – Ramanathapuram in Tamilnadu State.) – He is an Indian actor, filmmaker, screenwriter, playback singer, television presenter and politician who works mainly in Tamil cinema. He has predominantly appeared in Tamil films and has also worked in Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, Kannada and Bengali films. At age 6, Haasan started his career as a child artist in the 1960 Tamil-language film Kalathur Kannamma, for which he won the President’s Gold Medal for best child actor. His breakthrough as a lead actor came in the 1975 drama film Apoorva Raagangal. He won his first National Film Award for Moondram Pirai (1982). He was noted for his performances in K. Viswanath’s Swathi Muthyam (1986), Mani Ratnam’s Nayakan (1987), and S. Shankar’s Indian (1996) and also won second and third National film awards respectively. Since then he has appeared in films including Hey Ram (2000), Virumaandi (2004), Dasavathaaram (2008) in which he played ten roles, Vishwaroopam (2013) and Vikram (2022) which were his own productions. Haasan has acted in over 230 films, and in 2019 he became one of the few actors in India to have completed 60 years working in cinema. He has won four National Film Awards and 20 Filmfare Awards. He was awarded the Kalaimamani award in 1984 the Padma Shri in 1990, the Padma Bhushan in 2014.
(4) Ms. Raima Sen – (Born on 11th November 1979 at Mumbai) – She is an Indian actress who is known for her work in the Hindi and Bengali films. Sen made her debut in the film Godmother (1999), which was a critically acclaimed success, but her minor role may have been overlooked in favour of the protagonist, played by Shabana Azmi. She then starred in the film Daman (2001) playing Raveena Tandon’s daughter, where her small performance was appreciated. Her breakthrough role came when she starred in the Rituparno Ghosh’s film (2003). After a few more average movies she had a critically acclaimed hit in 2005 with Parineeta. (5) Ms. Anushka Shetty (Born : 7th November, 1981 in Manglore, Karnataka) – She is an Indian actress and model who predominantly works in Telugu and Tamil films. She made her acting debut with the 2005 Telugu film Super. The following year, she starred in S. S. Rajamouli’s blockbuster hit Vikramarkudu. Her further releases Lakshyam (2007), Souryam (2008), and Chintakayala Ravi (2008) were also box office successes. In 2009, Shetty played dual roles in the Telugu dark fantasy film Arundhati, which led her to her first Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu, and Nandi Award. The following year, Shetty’s portrayal of a prostitute in the acclaimed drama Vedam won her a second consecutive Best Actress Award from Filmfare. In the 2010s, Shetty also starred in Tamil cinema in the action films such as Vettaikaaran (2009), Singam (2010), Singam II (2013), and Yennai Arindhaal (2015), all of which were major commercial successes. She continued to draw praise from critics with her leading performances in the dramas Vaanam (2011), Deiva Thirumagal (2011) and Size Zero (2015). She portrayed the titular queen in the 2015 epic historical fiction Rudhramadevi, which won her the third Filmfare Award for Best Actress- Telugu. Shetty’s portrayal of Princess Devasena in the Baahubali series (2015–17) received widespread acclaim. While Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) is the seventh highest-grossing Indian film, its sequel Baahubali 2:The Conclusion (2017) is the third highest-grossing Indian film of all time and also made her the highest-paid actress in South Indian cinema. She is the recipient of three Filmfare Awards South, an Andhra Pradesh state Nandi Award, and a Tamil Nadu State Film Award. Having appeared in 47 films, she is one of the highest-paid South Indian actresses and is popularly referred as Lady Superstar of South Indian cinema.
