There are many famous Babas in India who claim to be miracle workers. But many Babas have also been involved in many controversies for which there are many reasons. Due to their claim of being miracle workers, many innocent people fall into their trap and get harmed. Here is a list of some controversial Babas and storytellers of India against whom legal action is also going on.

- Aasaram Bapu – Asumal Sirumalani Harpalani alias Asaram Bapu is the main accused in the rape case of a minor girl and is currently serving life sentence in jail.
- Narayan Sai – Narayan Sai is the son of Asaram Bapu and he is currently lodged in Lajpore jail in Surat in an undertrial case of rape of a sadhika.
- Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh – Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is facing trial for raping several women and murdering some people. He is currently in jail. On 28 August 2017, the CBI court sentenced him to a total of 20 years in prison, 10 years for each of the two rape convictions to be served consecutively.
- Nithyananda – A case of rape of women is registered against Nithyananda. He left India in 2019 and fled to some unknown country. He has been declared a fugitive criminal from India.
- Ram Kisan Yadav Alias Ramdev – Apart from being a spiritual guru, Ramdev is also a yoga instructor and manufacturer of many types of Ayurvedic medicines. His company’s medicines have been banned several times by the court due to false claims of providing the right cure for many kinds of diseases. Not only this, the products manufactured by his company have been found to be faulty in the lab many times. India’s top court ordered him to apologies for falsely claiming that his company’s products can “cure” serious illnesses.
- Rampal – Rampal was arrested on the night of 19 November 2014, along with more than 900 of his followers, on charges including sedition, murder, attempt to murder, conspiracy, hoarding illegal weapons, wrongful confinement, and aiding and abetting suicide-mongers. Since then Rampal is in jail till date.
- Surajpal Alias Narayan Sarkar Hari Alias Bhole Baba – Surajpal is a storyteller. On 2 July 2024, he had organized a satsang in Hathras district. After the satsang, 121 people died in a stampede at the venue. The administration has held Surajpal and his managers responsible for the death of so many people and has filed cases against them. At present, Surajpal is absconding.
