In Bollywood, many films are made that chronicle the whole life story of a famous person. Such films are called biographical films. In India, films have been made on many famous people. But not all movies are hits. Here is a list of some such selected biographical Hindi movies which are based on the life stories of famous people of India and also became very famous.

- Shaheed, 1965 (Cast – Manoj Kumar, Kamini Kaushal, Pran) – Based on biography of Sardar Bhagat Singh, a revolutionary of the Indian freedom movement.
- Gandhi, 1982 (Cast – Ben Kingsley, Roshan Seth, Rohini Hattangadi, Saeed Jaffrey) – Based on biography of National Father of India Mahatmma Gandhi.
- Bandit Queen, 1994 (Cast – Seema Biswa, Manoj Bajpayee, Nirmal Pandey) – Based on biography of Fulan Devi, a bandit in Chambal.
- Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, 2000 (Cast – Mammootty, Tirlok Malik, Mohan Gokhle, Sonali Kulkarni) – Based on biography of Indian Constitution maker Baba Saheb Bheem Rao Ambedkar.
- 23rd March 1931: Shaheed, 2002 (Cast – Bobby Deol, Sunny Deol, Amrita Singh, Rahul Dev) – Based on biography of Sardar Bhagat Singh, a revolutionary of the Indian freedom movement.

- Mangal Pandey: The Rising, 2005 (Cast – Mangal Pandey, Rani Mekerji, Ameesha Patel) – Based on biography of Mangal Pandet, a revolutionary soldier of the 1857 Indian freedom movement.
- Guru, 2007 (Cast – Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai) – Based on biography of Dhirubhai Ambani, founder of Relaince Industry.
- Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, 2013 (Cast – Farhan Akhtar, Sonam Kapoor, Divya Dutta, Prakash Raj, Pavan Malhotra) – Based on biography of Milkha Singh, a great sprinter of India .
- Ramanujan, 2014 (Cast – Abhinay Vaddi, Abbas, Suhasini Maniratnam) – Based on biography of Indian famous mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan.
- Mary Kom, 2014 (Cast – Priyanka Chopra, Darshan Kumaar, Sunil Thapa) – Based on biography of Mary Kom, Indian Women Boxer World Champion.
- Neerja, 2016 (Cast – Sonam Kapoor, Shekhar Ravjiani, Shabana Azmi, Jim Sarbh) – Based on biography of Neerja Bhanot who was a flight purser who died while saving passengers on Pan Am Flight 73 which had been hijacked in Karachi, Pakistan, on 5 September 1986.

- Dangal, 2016 (Cast – Aamir Khan, Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Zaira Wasim) – Based on biography of Indian wrestler sisters Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat and their father Mahavir Singh Phogat.
- Sanju, 2018 (Cast – Ranbir Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala) – Based on biography of Bollywood actor Sunjay Dutt.

- Sardar Udham, 2021 (Cast – Vickey Kaushal, Banita Sandhu, Amol Parashar, Kristy Averton) – Based on biography of Udham Singh, a revolutionary of the Indian freedom movement.
- Shershaah, 2021 (Cast – Sidharth Malhotra, Kiara Advani) – Based on biography of Captain Vikram Batra, who was martyred during the Kargil War on 7 July 1999.
- Major, 2022 (Cast – Adivi Sesh, Prakash Raj, Sobhita Dhulipala, Saiee Manjrekar) – Based on biography of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan who was martyred on 28 November 2008 while rescuing civilians in 26/11/2008 terror attack in Mumbai .
