The decision of the central government to give a 10% reservation to the General category can now be difficult. A big political party of South India, DMK, has filed an appeal in the Madras High Court against the Central Government’s decision to give 10% reservation to the General category. It has also been requested in the petition to issue instructions to stop the implementation of this law till the final decision is taken in this matter.
Through this petition, DMK has argued that this Constitution amendment has violated the basic structure of the Constitution. DMK has filed this appeal in the Madras High Court on January 18, 2019. Madras High Court has sent a notice to central government and ask reply before 18th February 2019.
However, another appeal related to this case has also been filed in the Supreme Court, which demanded a ban on constitutional amendment regarding reservation of 10% to General category. This appeal has been filed by NGO Youth For Equality in the Supreme Court. Supreme Court has sent a notice to central government and ask reply till 23 February 2019.
